The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
