The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
